"I have been building my rink for three years now and I'm responsible for more than one dad on my son's
hockey team to tackle the backyard rink.
This past summer, I installed an in-ground pool for the kids.
The issue was now how to build the rink.
I tackled a job that I hadn't clearly thought about, building
a sub floor over the pool. I purchased 26 Sheets of Plywood and 96 2x8's to build a platform over the pool.
The rink was shortened slightly and now measures 19'x39' with 2' boards on the sides and 4' on the ends.
For night skating I have 4 500 Watt Construction lights mounted on 12' poles.
This was not only a large
endeavour but ended up costing a pretty penny. Let's just say I could have rented about 12 hours of Private
Ice Time for what was spent!! Oh well, all for my three boys: Connor, Quinn and Nolan.
Here are a few pictures
of "The Process." While certainly not the biggest and best of the rinks on your site, most will agree that
I must be nuts to actually pull a stunt like this. The weather in Ottawa has consisted of rain, warm weather
and rain."
Great job Adam. Remember, anything that is actually
worth something...isn't easy. So your rink is worth a lot. Thanks for the pic. |
