Last years rink never did get skated on. The weather was the mildest in a long time, and it would freeze then melt and so on. It would't stay cold enough to put a skating surface on it. Of course this year I used a plastic liner (although a thinner one - won't do that again) and for the first time I will freeze in layers. Hope that works out OK. Well the "thin" plastic liner didn't work too well. Freezing in layers didn't either. So I broke down and bought a white tarp ($90 tx in) which I swore I would never do. The blue one didn't work out well the last time I tried it. So I didn't think a white one would be any different. But it was a great success. One of the best rinks I have ever had. 8 weeks of good skating. The temps had lots to do with this however. We had consitent cold (-10 C) for almost the whole 8 weeks. I put the white liner down on top of the partially frozen ice and what was left of the plastic liner and filled up the "pool". A few days later and we were skating.
