"Well it took a little longer this year for the season
to start in Newmarket, Ontario, but the weather finally co-operated and we had our first skate
today (Jan 10,2004).
The rink is larger this year (34ft x 25 ft), and it required a bit of leveling expertise because
of the slope and dips in my backyard. The second photo shows the detail of an idea that I had which
worked out perfectly. While I was line-leveling the boards, I decided to use 3 inch strips of
solid Styrofoam pink insulation (1" thick) to help the leveling process. It helped tremendously
in preparing the box-frame for the plastic liner (3 lengths of 6 mil poly, about 10 ft wide and 40 ft long).
I did have some leakage early on, and that was because the poly was laid too early and I had 1 or 2 mice
that decided to crawl under the poly tarp and they left 3 holes when they couldn’t find their way out.
(more tape work!)
See you next year."
As usual, great job Dan. Thanks for the pics and the tip on the insulation. |
