Dan and Lisa Kaminski's Backyard Rink 2002/03
Rochester Hills, MI  USA

February 2003
Rink
Size: 36' x 75'

Dan and Lisa write:

"This was our third year for the rink, and what a year it was! We skated from Dec. 7th to March 11th.

We thought to angle the corner boards the 2nd year, which added ten feet to the length of the rink.

We modified Jack Falla's instructions for the construction. Instead of digging holes for the posts, we cut the ends of our 2x4 posts to a point and pounded them in 4' on center, then attached the walls (1/2" pressure
treated plywood) with screws. The joints come together really well. All taken apart, it's easy to store in the garage attic, too.

We definitely recommend stakes and level lines before putting up a rink, no matter how level you think your yard is! Our deep end is about 9" greater than the shallow end.

We saved last year's liner (40'x100' 6mil polyethylene) and put it down under the new liner this year. After having frustrating leaks in the deep end the first 2 years, this year was a breeze!

We turn on the back floodlight and set up a halogen floodlight for night skating. Our boys (ages 8, 10, 12) enjoy having a backyard rink more every year.

We love your website, Howard. Keep up the great work!"

Really nice rink guys.  Thanks for the pic.
