"Hey Howard,
Great site keep up the great work! This is year # 3 for building a rink and it is the best one by far.
The rink is 28' X 56' and is made utilizing a white tarp. The tarp was purchased at Home Depot who convinced be to with the 40' X 60" tarp instead of plastic. For this I thank them!
I started by compacting about 6" of snow on snowshoes and then I utilized a sprinkler, on a fairly warm day, to saturate the snow. When it got cold the base was formed. After a few more sprays we were ready for the heavy flooding. The one thing I really recommend is to utilize a barrel flood versus a spray. I found this really levelled the rink quickly. Once levelled I use a home made "ice-resurfacer" to maintain the ice surface. For night time skating we have three 500w halogens to light up the rink. I also have saved a few pucks (not mention friendships of neighbours) by putting up chain link fencing at the ends."
Nice rink Denis. Thanks for the pics.
