"Here is my Backyard Rink.
It was my first efforts on a rink, and I suspect I got very lucky this
past season with the temps we had in Ontario. I had some fantastic ICE!
The rink was approx. 14ft wide x 20ft long. With the snow as much as we
got in Orillia, I didn't need boards ( just 50 pucks).
I started the rink with about
a half dozen plastic strips that I got using a roll or paint drop sheet.
I tacked these to the ground using 6 inch spikes. I then covered the plastic
with the light snow that was already on the ground, to keep it from blowing
away (Blew away once).
After doing this, I watered,
and watered, usually at night, ensuring every spot was well drenched. With
the perfect -10 to -20 weather, the rink was up in no time! It took a whole
lot of shovelling to keep it up, but we got some great shinny sessions
out of it and some good goaltending practice that I needed!
Come March 18th, it took
one weekend to undo everything I worked for. One weekend of +10 temp and
it was goodbye rink for another season.
Looking forward to the 2003/04
season!"
Great job and thanks for
