Jeff writes: "I built a few rinks in my younger years and when my wife and I purchased our home last summer one of my first plans was to build a skating rink each winter. We have a 5 year old son, and are expecting our second this coming May! So of course being we are Canadian I feel it important to pass on the hockey tradition to my son. I do not know the exact measurement of my rink, it is approximately 29X33 ft. I used boards all the way around and plastic in corners only. It was thrown together fairly quick, and really lacked planning. The far end is around 2 1/2 - 3 feet thick of ice (I have some landscaping to do this summer) while the shallow end is a mere 2 to 3 inches. I started actually building on December 18 2004, and had many setbacks with the weather, and also a pretty bad fall down the stairs with a hot jug of water trying to thaw outside taps which resulted in a trip to the hospital and severely bruised ribs (I hook up water in basement now!). After all these weeks I must say I am too tired to skate. It took a lot of snow to build up the deep end. I did have boards, 3 2X6's stacked on top of each other, but I went over those long ago *lol*. Lack of snow banks is due to fact there is quite a drop at that end. Because of the pain and such tough work that went into this I decided that I would go all out and put lines on it. I used bristol board for this, I think it turned out quite well." Looks good Jeff.
