"Thanks for the great site!
Your pictures, information and tips are surely the #1 reason(s) my first rink has been an
absolute success so early in the year. The kids have already had their first skate December 15, 2005
and the first Mite vs. Squirt game was a 5-hour event on the 17th (See Pictures Attached).
For Mid-Michigan, our temp's have been WAY below normal, allowing ice building 101 to become
an advanced level course pretty quickly! Our rink has a 6 mil one piece clear liner and
is 83' X 32' with a depth ranging from about 3" to 11" thick. A frame varying from 2x6's to 2x12's
are already darn near completely buried in snow. I ended up only putting up the 4' plywood
boards around one end of the ice.....My neighborhood association was on the verge of a revolt, so
I took the higher road! (Apparently years ago no one thought enough ahead to specifically
outlaw an ice rink!)
Anyway, nightly thin floods with my resurfacer have allowed me to build up a nice level surface
even over the highest and weakest area. Although at this point this project has been WAY more
time consuming than originally expected, the finished product is even better than I had
hoped. I have truly become addicted to smooth ice! Street and X-mas Lighting allows limited
night skating, but plans are in the works to added floods on the house.
Rink building has surely has been a learning experience and I truly thank you for sharing
your expertise with a true amateur (I actually still have never physically donned a pair of
ice skates in my life...but ya never know).
Thanks again for all the helpful information. Go MSU!"
Great job Kris. Night skating is great so get those lights up. Thanks for the pics.
