"This was my first attempt at building a rink. I don't think that I could have done this without the help of your website. Things will be better next year because I am going to have the yard leveled off and make it bigger. This year's rink is 32x75. I made my own re-surfacer out of one inch plastic pipe. I will try and get some pictures of it to you soon. Hope the pictures are good enough. Thanks for all the help.

2005 Rink building log:

October 29, 2005
Set up boards for the hockey rink. Used 2x12’s for the boards. Pounded steel posts for braces every 10 feet.

November 25, 2005
Added second set of 2x12’s to north, west and south sides because of 13 inch pitch. Added steel posts every 5 feet where these boards are higher.

December 3, 2005
Put down the 40x100 5-mil sheet of plastic that was bought at Farm & Fleet. Started to fill the rink at 4:45 pm. 9 degrees F was overnight temps.

December 4, 2005
Shut water off at 12:45 pm. Turn it back on at 4:15pm and let it run until 8:45 pm. Daytime high was 23 degrees F while overnight low was 7 degrees F.

December 5, 2005
Starting to freeze over. Daytime temp is 13 F while overnight is –4 F.

December 6, 2005
Got snow so had to shovel it off the ice. Ice is hard enough to walk on except for one spot where dad broke through. Temps are 14 F during day and 0 F during night.

December 7, 2005
First skate of the year this evening. Tried out the re-surfacer too, works great. Temps are 11 F daytime and –11 F night."

Great job Matt. Thanks for info and the pics.
