"You have a great site. The tips came in very handy. Here is a pic of our rink this year.
This is our second attempt in as many years. Last year I made the mistake of simply putting a 30X50 tarp over snow banks and filling it with water. Well, the skates and shovels (and snow blower…oops) took a toll on our tarp and made for a very frustrating year this year. No amount of Tuct tape could adequately patch and prevent the water from finding a way out. Winter came very late this year in Ottawa, and our first skate wasn't until end of January. February was great (for and outdoor rink builder) and all in all, we ended up having a good season. As I write this, we are getting another blast of cold weather that may buy us another couple of weeks.
This year's incarnation was 24 X 45 and featured end boards made from old skids and a few plywood sheets and side boards made from old 2'X 8' garden fence. Two 500W work lights lit the way and plastic nets were replace by metal (thanks Costco). And I hope I'm not stepping on any toes when I say that I made my own ice resurfacer. Next year we'll try a new tarp and some painted lines and a Senators logo.
Thanks again."
Really nice rink Rick. Great job.
