| This is Steve's
first attempt at making a backyard rink. He writes:
"It took me a few hours to
build the 20'x45' frame and no time to add the liner when the time was
right. The rink is on a slight slope, it's 6 inches lower in one
corner than the other. I made sure the boards were high enough to
stop the puck from shooting into the snow (when it finally shows up).
I added angle supports the next weekend on a suggestion from a backyard
rink builder from long ago.
I installed flood lights
(4, 100 watt bulbs) for night skating. We made a fire pit to keep
warm between skates. I installed the lines but I'm finding that the
lines collect the heat and cause hollow spots to form under the ice.
Not sure how long I'll keep the lines in for safety sake. Next year
I'll have to put them deeper in the ice to prevent this problem.
I made a goal from 1 1/2"
PVC and a old golf net. Painted it red and it's a hockey goal.
Hope it stays together, LOL."
Quite a good job Steve.
Thanks for the photo.
